A prestigious tribute to a major milestone on the highway of Australian history, we are proud to present the Decimal Currency 60th Anniversary 2026 $100 1oz Gold Proof Coin!
Joining a broad global trend, Australia’s original ‘pounds, shillings & pence’ currency system was supplanted by decimal currency in February of 1966. The work of legendary numismatic designer Stuart Devlin, Australia’s first decimal coinage celebrated Australian native animals. This included the kangaroo & emu (50c), platypus (20c), lyrebird (10c), echidna (5c), frilled-neck lizard (2c) and feathertail glider (1c). Devlin’s magnificent portrayals of our wildlife captured the essence of an increasingly independent Australia, and the designs are still cherished even 60 years after the decimal system was adopted.
The ultimate tribute to the 60th anniversary of decimalisation, and a must-have for anyone with a passion for the world’s favourite precious metal, this exquisite coin is struck from 1oz of 99.99% pure gold. Spanning an imposing 38.60mm, the broad, crown-sized flan forms the perfect venue for the depiction of all seven of the iconic Aussie animals found on our original decimal coinage.
Beautifully presented within the lavish confines of a plush case, each coin is complete with a Certificate of Authenticity. Individually numbered, that Certificate attests to the extremely limited availability of this prestigious precious metal Proof. A mere NINETY-NINE COINS are available across the entire world!

Australia’s Currency Crossroads – the dawn of the decimal era…
Symbolising the greatest change in Australia’s monetary history, February the 14th 1966 saw the formal introduction of decimal currency. The system it replaced – a remarkably complex system inherited from Britain and based on a system once used by the Ancient Romans – had underpinned the economy of the Great Southern Land since the time of European settlement in 1788.
Although there was some impetus for the incorporation of the more easily understood decimal system after Federation in 1901, it took until the late 1950s for a widespread desire for change to emerge. Promises to modify the predecimal system were made during the 1958 election campaign by Prime Minister Robert Menzies, and this resulted in the establishment of a Commonwealth Government committee. In April 1963, following the committee’s report, Treasurer Harold Holt announced that Australia would change over to decimal currency.
The Government undertook the largest advertising and education campaign in Australia’s history, and from the cartoon character Dollar Bill to the Dollar Girls to the famous jingle, the program was a spectacular success. Although millions of the old coins and banknotes had to be replaced with Australia’s sparkling new decimal currency, three years of planning meant that the transition to the much simpler decimal system was remarkably smooth. The anticipated chaos never emerged, justifying the Government’s confidence in the changeover. Australians have never looked back after embracing decimal currency, and the mind boggles at the complexity of the original predecimal system.
Underpinned by quality, purity and extremely limited availability, the Decimal Currency 60th Anniversary 2026 $100 1oz Gold Proof forms a prestigious keepsake of Australia’s embrace of the decimal system.
