A wonderful opportunity, we are delighted to present the King George V 1925P Gold Sovereign – in sensational Choice Uncirculated quality!
Offering you the chance to step back in time to the Roaring 20s, the Perth Mint’s 1925P Gold Sovereign is distinguished by the timeless beauty of Benedetto Pistrucci’s neo-classical masterpiece, St George & the Dragon. Upon the obverse, one finds the powerful portrait of King George V – designed by Australian artist Bertram Mackennal. Struck from 22-carat gold, the 1925P Sovereign is scarce today. This is in part due to the fact that the Perth Mint struck a mere 1,868,007 examples – but even that meagre mintage doesn’t tell the whole story.
All 1920s sovereigns are scarce today – largely because of the unknown but enormous number that were melted for the gold value. The First World War sounded the death knell for gold as a circulating medium, meaning that the sovereign was transformed from a standard coin, used in everyday transactions, to an international trading commodity. As a result, literally millions of 1920s sovereigns were shipped overseas as gold bullion. The Perth Mint’s 1925P was no exception to the rule.
One of finest to survive the melting pot, the 1925P Gold Sovereign before you is a truly spectacular example. Graded by leading independent 3rd party coin verifiers Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) at MS63 – the equivalent of Choice Uncirculated – this 101-year-old coin is seldom seen in such a state of preservation. Indeed, PCGS has only graded three examples of the 1925P higher!
