Created in collaboration with palaeobiologist Professor Adrian Lister of the Natural History Museum, with artwork by palaeo-artist Robert Nicholls, the coin honours the Mammuthus trogontherii. Known as the steppe mammoth, this enormous herbivore was one of the largest beasts to exist during the Pleistocene period, with an average shoulder height of 4 metres and an average weight of 10 tonnes!
