An impressive tribute to an important part of British – and Australian – currency history, we are delighted to present the Portraits of Queen Elizabeth II 2026 £5 Arnold Machin 1oz Silver Proof Coin.
Found on Australian coinage from the beginning of decimal currency in 1966, and employed upon British coinage soon after, the second coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II was created by Arnold Machin OBE, RA. A noted British artist and sculptor, Machin’s effigy of the queen would grace Australia’s coinage for the best part of two decades. A modernised portrayal of Elizabeth II, the laurel wreath seen on the Gillick portrait was replaced with a tiara given to the queen as a wedding present by her Grandmother, Queen Mary.
An exceptional piece of numismatic artistry, Machin’s superb portrait of Queen Elizabeth II dominates the reverse of this eye-catching coin from Britain’s Royal Mint. Remastered by Royal Mint Chief Engraver Gordon Summers, Machin’s work looks spectacular struck to the height of Proof quality from sparkling sterling silver. Uniting Mother & Son upon an official British legal tender coin, the portrait of King Charles III by Martin Jennings adorns the obverse.
To be enjoyed by the select few, with the limited edition set at 3,900 coins, the Portraits of Queen Elizabeth II 2026 £5 Arnold Machin 1oz Silver Proof is presented within an official Royal Mint case with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity. The Royal Mint packaging also explores the story behind Machin’s portrait.
