An affordable, official tribute to an important part of British – and Australian – currency history, the Portraits of Queen Elizabeth II 2026 £5 Arnold Machin Cupro-Nickel Brilliant Uncirculated Coin is a must-have.

First seen on Australian coinage at decimalisation in 1966, and found upon British coinage soon after, the second coinage portrait of Elizabeth II was the work of Arnold Machin OBE, RA. A noted British artist and sculptor, Machin’s portrait of the queen graced Australia’s coinage for nearly two decades. A modernised portrayal of Elizabeth II, the laurel wreath seen on the Gillick portrait was replaced with a tiara of festoons, scrolls and collet-spikes given to the queen as a wedding present by her Grandmother, Queen Mary.

An outstanding work of numismatic portraiture, Machin’s effigy of Elizabeth II features upon the reverse of this unique commemorative type – superbly remastered by Royal Mint Chief Engraver Gordon Summers. Uniting Mother & Son upon an official British legal tender coin, the portrait of King Charles III by Martin Jennings adorns the obverse.

Set within an informative, illustrated Royal Mint pack exploring the story behind Machin’s portrait, the Portraits of Queen Elizabeth II 2026 £5 Arnold Machin Cupro-Nickel Brilliant Uncirculated Coin would make a fine addition to any collection. It’s simply a must-have for those with a passion for Australia’s currency history.
