After the war, GMH (General Motors Holden) was left with the ability to make engines, chassis and vehicle bodies in-house & in 1946 the company started work on what would become Australia’s first home-grown car. Begin your vintage adventure with the car Prime Minister Ben Chifley famously branded ‘a beauty’ - the Holden FX! Other highlights include the popular FJ - the Holden of the common man, the FE of the 1950s and the FC, whose performance, ruggedness & excellent value for money were major drawcards. By this time Holden out-sold its nearest competitor by two to one! The FB followed, heavily influenced by the design of American cars. Next came the EK, which provided Australia’s first taste of automatic motoring and the streamlined EJ – the first of the classic 60s Holden models!
