A permanent memento of the most important landmark in Australian currency history – the changeover to decimal currency – we are proud to present the Elizabeth II 1966-84 Arnold Machin Portrait Uncirculated 7-Coin Set!
First seen on Australian coinage at decimalisation in 1966, the second coinage portrait of Elizabeth II was the work of Arnold Machin OBE, RA. A noted British artist and sculptor, Machin’s effigy represented a modernised portrayal of Elizabeth II. Featuring more of the shoulder, rather than truncated at the neck, the portrait also saw the laurel wreath of the Gillick portrait replaced with the tiara given to the queen as a wedding present by her Grandmother, Queen Mary.
Gracing Australia’s coinage for the best part of two decades, Machin’s portrait appeared on seven denominations – 1c, 2c, 5c, 10c, 20c, 50c & $1. All seven denominations are included in this affordable presentation – all in strictly Uncirculated condition! Importantly, the $1 in this set is not only the very first Australian $1 coin, it is also unique, as the ONLY circulating $1 to carry the Machin portrait.
Beautifully presented within an all-new, informative, illustrated pack, the Elizabeth II 1966-84 Arnold Machin Portrait Uncirculated 7-Coin Set represents terrific value-for-money at this price. Click add to cart now!
