A noted sculptor, Maklouf stated that his intention had been “to create a symbol, regal and ageless”, and the noted designer achieved that ambition with aplomb. A superb work, Maklouf’s portrait shows the Queen wearing a necklace, earrings and the royal diadem, which she usually wears on her way to and from the State Opening of Parliament.
Holding a very special place in Australian decimal currency history, the Maklouf Portrait is the only obverse portrayal of the Queen to appear on all eight circulating Australian decimal denominations! A fine snapshot of the relatively short-lived Maklouf Portrait, which was used only from 1985 until 1998, this set includes all denominations in strictly Uncirculated condition.
