A coin for the connoisseur
One of the lowest mintage issues in the 1855-1931 Gold Half Sovereign Series, the 1884M Gold Half Sovereign is extremely rare in the quality apparent here. A marvellous example, this entrancing coin has been graded by leading independent 3rd party coin verifiers PCGS at MS61 – the equivalent of Uncirculated condition!
As with each Young Head Half Sovereign, the 1884M unites William Wyon’s iconic youthful portrait of Queen Victoria with the armorial magnificence of Jean Baptiste Merlen’s glorious Shield motif. An extremely low-mintage issue, production of 1884M was closed at just 48,000 coins! With a vast majority of that meagre mintage lost, melted for the gold or heavily circulated, the number of examples remaining in high grade is infinitesimal.
Missing from most collections, even in low grade, this is your chance to secure this crucial Australian colonial issue in strictly Uncirculated condition. Underpinned by excellent detail in the designs, a lovely golden lustre and a strong Melbourne Mint M Mintmark, this is undoubtedly a coin for the connoisseur. Click add to cart now!
