A unique, one-year-only Australian legal tender type, the 2001 Bradman 20c paid homage to Sir Donald Bradman – Australia’s greatest sportsman and the greatest cricketer in history.
Sir Donald Bradman scored 6,996 runs in 52 Test Matches, and averaged 99.94 runs per innings. As no one who has played 20 or more Test innings has registered an average much beyond 60, Bradman’s record is unlikely to ever be broken. An Australian icon, Bradman died in 2001 at the age of 92, and was honoured with the issue of the 2001 Bradman 20c.
Australia’s second 20c commemorative type, the 2001 Bradman 20c carries a superb reverse design, capturing ‘The Don’ playing a characteristically aggressive shot. Official Australian legal tender, struck by the Royal Australian Mint, the obverse features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley.
Hoarded out of circulation by collector and cricket fan alike, the 2001 Bradman 20c is tough to find in circulation. Even if you got lucky and found one in change, it would not be in premium grade, as here.
