An icon of American numismatics, and a genuine, surprisingly affordable artefact of early US history, we are delighted to present the 1816-35 Coronet Head Cent!
The Coronet Head Cent is known as a โlarge cent typeโ โ a type that, due to reasons of economy, was replaced by the small Flying Eagle Cent in 1857. Designed by Robert Scot โ the first Chief Engraver of the US Mint, appointed in 1793 โ the type has been dubbed the Coronet Head due to the crown worn by Liberty on the obverse. Struck exclusively by the US Mint in Philadelphia โ the first & oldest US national mint โ during the presidencies of James Monroe, James Quincy Adams and Andrew Jackson, the Coronet Head Cent is a remnant of a seminal period of US history, defined by internal expansion and consolidation of power on the international stage.
A must-have for any international coin collection, especially at this value-for-money price, we secured a small batch of this American after a recent hoard find in the US. Offered in highly collectable Very Good to Very Fine condition โ dates of our choice.
